NEWSPAPER (সবাদপত্র)

Introduction : Man is naturally curious(আগ্রহী ) to know about various events (ঘটনাসমূহ) of the world. The newspaper is the bestmedium to satisfy this curiosity. It is a paper that carries news to us. It tells us what is happening at home and abroad. It is the store-house of knowledge and information (তথ্য).

History : The newspaper was first published (প্রকাশিত হয়) in China. “The Indian Gazette’ published in 1774 was the first printed newspaper in Indian sub-continent (উপমহাদেশে). The first Bengali
newspaper was the ‘Samachar Darpan.’

Kinds of newspaper : There are many kinds of newspapers. They are the dailies, the weeklies, the monthlies, the quarterlies (ত্রৈমাসিক) etc. The daily newspapers contain the news of daily affairs anfaa (দৈনিক ঘটনা) of home and abroad. The Daily Ittefaq, the Janakantha, the Jugantor, the Prothom Alo and the Samakal are the leading Bangla newspapers. The Daily Star and the Daily Sun are the leading English Newspapers in Bangladesh.

Usefulness : Newspaper plays a vital role in modern civilization. We can’t think of modern world without it. It is very useful to all sections of people. Through it we can learn all the important things that happen in the world within twenty four hours. Reports of market conditions, games and sports, political and economic situations of a country come to us through it everyday. Newspaper has an educative valué as well. Mere bookish knowledge is not sufficient in this
competitive world. A newspaper helps one to enrich his general knowledge. A man who does not read newspaper is like a frog in a narrow well. Being ignorant of the current affairs, he can’t take part in
the talks and discussions in an enlightened society and thus he feels
like a fish out of water.

Demerits.: A newspaper is not altogether free from evils. Sometimes it publishes false or partisan (পক্ষপাতমূলক) news and excites (উত্তেজিত করে) public feelings.

Conclusion: We cannot imagine today’s world without newspaper. It is often compared to a looking glass through which one can see everything what happens all around us. Newspaper should publish unbiased news and play its role responsibly.

ভূমিকা : মানুষ স্বভাবতই পৃথিবীর বিভিন্ন ঘটনাসমূহ জানতে আগ্রহী। এ আগ্রহকে পরিতৃপ্ত করতে সংবাদপত্র হচ্ছে সবচেয়ে ভালাে মাধ্যম। এটি এমন একটি কাগজ যা আমাদের নিকট সংবাদ বয়ে আনে। দেশে ও বিদেশে কী ঘটেছে এটি আমাদেরকে তা বলে দেয়। এটি জ্ঞান ও তথ্য ভান্ডার।

ইতিহাস : সংবাদপত্র সর্বপ্রথম চীন দেশে প্রকাশিত হয়। ১৭৭৪ সালে প্রকাশিত ‘দি
ইন্ডিয়ান গেজেট ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশে প্রথম মুদ্রিত সংবাদপত্র। প্রথম বাংলা সংবাদপত্র হলাে
‘সমাচার দর্পণ।

সংবাদপত্রের প্রকারভেদ : অনেক প্রকার সংবাদপত্র রয়েছে। সেগুলাে হলাে দৈনিক,
সাপ্তাহিক, মাসিক, ত্রৈমাসিক ইত্যাদি। দৈনিক সংবাদপত্র দেশ-বিদেশের প্রতিদিনের ঘটনা
ধারণ করে। দৈনিক ইত্তেফাক, জনকণ্ঠ, যুগান্তর, প্রথম আলাে এবং সমকাল প্রভৃতি হচ্ছে
বাংলাদেশের প্রধান বাংলা দৈনিক সংবাদপত্র। ডেইলি স্টার এবং ডেইলি সান বাংলাদেশের প্রধান ইংরেজি সংবাদপত্র।

গুরুত্ব/উপকারিতা : সংবাদপত্র আধুনিক সভ্যতায় এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে থাকে। এটি ছাড়া আমরা আধুনিক বিশ্ব চিন্তা করতে পারি না। সব শ্রেণির লােকের কাছে এটি খুবই উপকারী। এটির মাধ্যমে আমরা পৃথিবীতে ২৪ ঘণ্টায় কী ঘটছে সেসব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ তথ্যগুলাে
জানতে পারি। প্রতিদিন এটির মাধ্যমে বাজারের অবস্থা, খেলাধুলা, দেশের রাজনৈতিক ও অর্থনৈতিক অবস্থা আমাদের কাছে এসে থাকে। সংবাদপত্রের শিক্ষণীয় মূল্যও রয়েছে। এ
প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতামূলক পৃথিবীতে কেবল পুঁথিগত বিদ্যাই যথেষ্ট নয়। সংবাদপত্র সাধারণ জ্ঞানকে সমৃদ্ধকরতে সাহায্য করে। যে সংবাদপত্র পড়ে না সে এক সংকীর্ণ কূপে বাস করা ব্যাঙের মতো।
চলমান ঘটনার সাথে অজ্ঞ হওয়ায়, সে আলােকিত সমাজে আলাপ-আলােচনায় অংশগ্রহণ করতে পারে না এবং এভাবে সে পানিবিহীন মাছের মতাে অনুভব করে।

অসুবিধা : সংবাদপত্র সম্পূর্ণ দোষমুক্ত নয়। মাঝে মাঝে এটি মিথ্যা বা পক্ষপাতমূলক সংবাদ
পরিবেশন করে এবং জনগণের অনুভূতিকে উত্তেজিত করে।

উপসংহার : সবাদপত্র ছাড়া আমরা আজকের বিশ্বের কথা কল্পনা করতে পারি না। এটাকে
প্রায়ই আয়নার সাথে তুলনা করা হয় যার ভেতর দিয়ে একজন আমাদের চারপাশে যা ঘটে তা
দেখতে পায়। সংবাদপত্রের উচিত নিরপেক্ষ সংবাদ প্রকাশ করা এবং দায়িত্বশীল ভূমিকা পালন করা।
